Landscape Soap Challenge

This month's challenge via Amy at Great Cakes Soapworks is a Landscape Soap. Each member participating had to choose a photo of a landscape and try to recreate that into a soap. I had just enough time to pick two photos.

For the first soap, I choose a friend's landscape from her Facebook page. She recently took a trip to Iceland to photograph the Northern Lights, ice caves and frozen waterfalls. She got some stunning views. Check out her ice cave photos!

You can see her work on Facebook by going to Country Mama's Photography at: https://www.facebook.com/CountrysMamaPhotography
Judy takes great photos of landscapes but also of livestock and dogs and some seriously interesting shots of insects.
I used my basic soap recipe and added mango butter and apricot kernel oil. I used mica's for the colorants with red morrocan and kaolin clays, some rose hip powder and jojoba meal to add some texture to the bring out the gravel look on the ground beneath the snow and water. The soap is scented with eucalyptus and peppermint essential oils to bring out the cold and crisp feeling.

For the second soap I found some photos of a palm trees to go with a fragrance oil called Da' Lime in the da Coconut.

The colorants for Tropical Island include micas and oxides. The green did not show up as well as I had hoped. I think the soap looks a bit more stormy than the photo.

Thank you again Amy for another great challenge! I love trying new patterns.

What? Where are the other 5 soaps, Cris? I'm completely disappointed. LOL! Not really! You always stun me with how many soaps you make each month. These are both fantastic! Such polar opposites - the cold and the hot. Great job!!

Wow! Two cool soaps- You're very industrious! It's so warm in Florida already and the idea of a cool minty Icelandic shower really appeals to me :-)

You and I both seemed to have taken it easy this month considering only 2 soaps each haha! You did a wonderful job! Love the layered look of the first and the wispy bright white summer clouds of the second. Well done!

Thank you Janyce. From the photos I saw of the trip to Iceland it had to be a wonderful experience. Glad to make your acquaintance via a mutual friend!
