September Soap Challenge

This month's challenge is called the Clyde Slide, named for a Clyde Yoshida, a well known soap artist in the soaping world and one of my personal favorites. It was fun to see that Amy of Great Cakes Soapworks chose his design (hence the name of this design) for the challenge.

For this soap we needed to use a slow moving recipe and at least two contrasting colors and poured into a log mold. First the soap is poured into a bowl or large container as a faux funnel pour then the whole mix is poured into the log mold. That is where the Clyde Slide comes into play! The whole idea is to get an interesting design that should show some feathering.

My feathering wasn't as impressive as I had hoped to see but this challenge was fun to do. I only had time for two batches after a quick trip to Bowling Green, Ky for a little female doberman puppy.

First Batch: A rosemary and orange essential oil blend (I love this blend!) with a Peach Sunset and Jungle Green mica for color and some titanium dioxide to help even out the yellow from the orange EO. You can see how the various colors are poured into the bowl. Once all the colors are poured then the whole bowl is poured into the log mold which changes the pattern of the colors. Basically the soap batter slides into the mold - the Clyde Slide! Unfortunately, it is hard for me to take a photo and pour at the same time! The soap in themold and fresh cut bars below

Second Batch: A blend of Patchouli, Gingergrass and Lemon essential oils with with some Key West Blue, Cosmo Martini purple, Tangerine Wow and Fired up Fushia for colors. Again the colors are poured into the bowl then slid into the log mold.

And this is the new addition to my home! Meet Swift Run's Lacey Rizzoli, aka Rizzy for short. This little gal is in training for Human Remains Detection and Disaster Recovery work.  She is my second dog to train in this area, her "big brother" Joe Pete is certified in HRD. Both dogs are members of Michigan Search and Rescue and MI-TF1. If you are interested in learning more about the type of training these dogs do, Rizzy has her own Facebook page!... Rizzy, the HRD Dobergirl....
