The past few days of Mid-Michigan weather have been absolutely wonderful and
we have broken several temperature records. I enjoying waking up to the birds
singing, the sunshine and listening to the Spring Peepers in the evening hours.
I am so ready for spring!
Everything seems to be coming early this year. First, it was the Red Wing
Blackbirds and then came the Sandhill Cranes in the field behind the house. The
crocus popped up and within a couple days the daffodils, tulips and other spring
bulbs shoved their way up out of the ground. They came up so fast that I had to
uncover the gardens much sooner than expected. I was afraid if I didn't get busy
I would have trouble getting the old leaves off without destroying the flowering
I am watching the robins in the front yard and listening to the symphony of
the birds singing from the trees across the road in the woods. The daffodils
that were buds yesterday are blooming today. The maple trees and others in the
woods have green buds that can be seen from my window. Yesterday, I noticed the
lilacs and the few fruit trees in the back garden have buds as well. It won't be
long and the lawn mower will need to be put into use!
I do believe that spring is my favorite time of year. All the seasons have
their place and show their beauty in various ways. The fall colors, the
glimmering white snow and all the green shades of summer, but springtime is like
waking up from a long sleep. I love to see the soil erupting with the promises
of flowers and herbal scents such as the garlic mustard plants I stepped on
while walking in the woods.
